Account settings
By clicking Settings on the left you can change your username, email address and password, configure your guest users, and completely delete your account if you no longer want to use MyDrive.
Guest Users
You can define guest users by clicking on Settings on the left. Each guest user has its own username and password, and can login to MyDrive with guestusername@mainusername.
Each guest user has a default permission, but you can change this individually for every folder by clicking on the colored icon on the right side. Also, if you have multiple guest users you can change the current user for which the permissions are changed, by clicking on the user icon at the top.
You can choose between the following access levels:
Please note the following:
- The main folder is always read-only and can't be changed
- If you change a folder's permission, all subfolders will also be set to this permission
- Newly created folders will always inherit the parent folder's permissions
- When you move a folder into another folder it will also inherit the target folder's permissions

Problems
I can't upload files
I can't upload big files
- Generally we recommend using the Java upload for big files
- The Flash upload officially only supports files up to 100 MB, anything above that may crash your browser
- Depending on your browser, the Standard upload may struggle with big files too, especially on slower machines
I can't download multiple files / folders (Zip download)
- If you select a lot of folders it can take a while until the download starts. Try downloading each folder separately if you experience problems.
-
Do you use a Download Manager?
Downloading multiple files doesn't work with most download managers, if you use one please disable it and start the download directly in your browser.
The upload is very slow
- Close bandwidth-hungry programs like P2P applications, TV viewers and Skype, or make sure to limit their upload bandwidth
- Uploading is usually a lot slower than downloading, the actual speed depends on your internet service provider. The faster your local internet connection is, the faster MyDrive will be.
When viewing text files, special characters aren't displayed correctly
- Your browser should automatically detect the correct encoding, but if you're using Firefox you may have to enable this first via menu View → Character Encoding → Auto-Detect → Universal
I'm using Internet Explorer and nothing works
-
Try resetting the security level to its default:
- Open the menu Tools → Internet Options
- Open the Security tab
- Click on the button Default Level, if it's greyed out choose a different security level to make it available
- Click OK to apply the changes
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any limits on the files I can upload?
No, you can upload all filetypes as long as you have enough free space in your account.
There is a technical limit of 2 GB per file when using the Flash or Standard upload types, which doesn't apply when using the Java upload or accessing MyDrive over WebDAV. But most WebDAV clients still can't handle files bigger than 2 GB (especially with 32-bit versions), and depending on your internet connection you may also experience timeouts and other problems.
Is there a limit on the number of files I can store per folder?
Yes, a single folder cannot contain more than 1000 files or folders in total. You can store more files by splitting them up into smaller folders.
Can I use the same account from multiple locations simultaneously?
Yes, there are no login restrictions for the website and WebDAV.
The same applies to guest user logins.
Can I use multiple accounts from the same location simultaneously?
For the website, this is only possible if you're using a different browser for each account.
For WebDAV it depends on your client: Windows Explorer for example will always use your saved username and password. It's possible to delete the saved password as follows:
- Open Start → Run
- Enter rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr and click OK
- Select the entry for webdav.mydrive.ch and click Remove
- Logout or reboot Windows to apply the change
Can I recover files I accidentally deleted?
Yes, we keep backups of deleted files for 1 month. Please contact us if you want to restore your data for free.
Why do some of my files show a date earlier than when I uploaded them?
When using the Java upload, as well as with some WebDAV clients, the local modification time of your files will be used automatically. This is not possible with the Flash and Standard uploads for technical reasons.
Is it possible to link my files from other websites?
No, you can only access your files on MyDrive itself.
Is it possible to access MyDrive over FTP?
No, but you can use WebDAV which gives you pretty much the same functionality.
If you're interested in normal FTP storage, please have a look at our FTP offers.
